The mountainous north Caucasus region of Russia is bordered on the east and west by the Caspian and Black Seas. Its republics, with a population of roughly 6 million people, are divided into more than 50 linguistic and ethnic groups.
Although the Caucasus has been a “gateway for travel and trade” over the centuries, the rugged terrain has helped to preserve the ethnic identity and numerous languages of the region. The dominate religion of the Chechnya, Ingushetia, and Dagestan republics is Islam. Other regions are nominally Russian-Orthodox or secular. The area by the Caspian Sea is volatile due to Chechnya’s fight for independence from Russia.
• Pray for missionaries and resources to reach the populations of the north Caucasus region of Russia.
• Ask the Holy Spirit to prepare hearts and to create a church-planting movement in the region.
