Undisclosed People Group

Anywhere from 24,000 to 32,000 of this people group live in southern China. There was no known record of this people group’s existence until the Japanese invasion of China in the 1930s drove Chinese forces into the southern interior. As the Kuomintang armies developed a transportation system, they came across this group and other minorities who had been untouched for centuries.

This people group is composed of animists and polytheists. They work to appease a system of gods who determine peace and success. To date, 97% of them have never heard the gospel. Three percent have heard, but have not trusted in Christ. There are no known followers of Jesus Christ among them. undisclosed.jpg

  • Pray that the Spirit would hover over this people group and prepare their hearts for the gospel.

  • Ask God to send laborers to this people group!

Myanmarese

Myanmar is a country rich in diversity.  Its 50 million people are made up of around 150 different people groups.  The predominant spiritual belief is Buddhism.  It is often called the Golden Land because of the thousands of Buddhist pagodas scattered throughout the country.

In attempts to isolate the country from outside influences, the government restricts any pro-Western notions and is hostile to Christian missionaries from abroad.  While the obstacles are many, God has been building His church through a growing Christian movement among severalmyanmar.jpg ethnic groups.

  • Pray for missionaries to receive long-term visas to live in Myanmar.
  • Pray that God would turn young Buddhist monks to Himself.

Azerbaijan

Known as “the land of fire,” Azerbaijan gained this name due to fire that appeared on the sea and the sides of mountains.  Gas and oil combusted creating a phenomenon that the ancients worshipped.  They called it “the god of the fire in the water."  These large oil resources have made Azerbaijan strategic for many years.

Of the 40 million Azerbaijani people in the world, 8 million reside in the country of Azerbaijan, which became independent in 1990 as the Soviet Union disintegrated.

And what are people worshipping now?  The church in Azerbaijan can trace its roots back to Pentecost and the Jewish diaspora, but following centuries of Islamic invasion and Russian and Soviet domination, believers in Azerbaijan number only about 0.025% of the population. Azerbaijanis say that there is only one God but many religions.

The church is young but full of faith and fervency.  There is a growing openness among the people and minimal government repression that is often seen in other post-Soviet countries.  The time is now for God’s fire to spread through this land and beyond.azerbaijan.jpg

Pray for “the land of fire.”

  • PIONEERS desires to initiate a church-planting movement in Azerbaijan.  Pray for God to raise up a team of workers to reach the Azerbaijani people for Christ.
  • The church in Azerbaijan is small in number, yet unified.  Pray that this unity would be preserved as the church grows and that vibrant cell groups would expand beyond the capital of Baku.

Basque

Spread across the northwestern border of Spain and France is the “Basque Country.”  The Basque are a people rich in ancient customs and with a unique language, Euskara.  They cling to their traditional way of life amid the two differing cultures of Spain and France.

They are a warm, friendly people among themselves, but not towards outsiders.  The Basque of Spain have for many years been in rebellion against the Spanish government and desire to become an independent state.  The Basque in France do not have radical separatist desires, but they do take pride in their language and traditions.

Among the 2 million Basque in Spain and 250,000 in France, less than 1% is evangelical.  There is much work to be done! basque.jpg

  • Pray that the Spirit would create a trust between the Basque and those who are seeking to bring them the Good News.
  • Pray that the Basque’s general disinterest in spiritual things would be taken away and replaced with openness towards God.

Kyrgyz

The majority of China’s 178,800 Kyrgyz people live in Xinjiang province.  Their name literally means “44 lasses,” pointing to the belief that the Kyrgyz people descended from 44 maidens.  The Kyrgyz in China still retain their tribal entities according to Operation China.

The Kyrgyz of China are officially Muslim, but they primarily practice a combination of shamanism and black magic.  This relies heavily on supernatural signs.  Today, there are only a few known Kyrgyz believers in China. kyrgz.jpg

  • Ask God to call out people to love and serve the Kyrgyz of China.
  • Pray that the Kyrgyz of China would embrace the wonder of Christ’s resurrection and trust in Him.
