Pass it on

This amusing, yet heart-warming story comes to us from a Pioneers missionary.  We can’t say who they are, or where they are, but we can tell you that just as it says in Hebrews 4:12 ‘the Word of God is alive and active’.

The missionary told us: “The particularly amazing thing has been to watch our house
helper and her family share with others. Though she cannot read or write, there is no doubt that she has the gift of evangelism. Many who have heard about Jesus through her have understood and believed. When the house keeper and her family began hosting ‘Story and Prayer time’ in their own home, they relayed what happened at their first meeting:
“We invited several neighbours and friends and were so excited about sharing, but then my friends’ husband showed up. He’s a mean man and he is always doing bad things. No-one likes him. I was nervous that he would be upset about what we were sharing. We were only a few (storyboard) pictures in when this man stood up and said, ‘Stop! Stop this story!’ I turned to my husband for help. My husband answered, ‘Brother, what is the problem?’ The man responded, ‘I can tell that this is an important story and since none of you people know how to read or write, I’m going back home to get a pencil and some paper. If you will tell these stories, I will write them down.”

My house helper giggled with me as she said, “He thinks HE’s the first one to write down these stories!” She continued, “At the end of the time the neighbour said, ‘Thank you for sharing these things. I have a plan. Every week, you will tell a new story and I will write it down. I work at the Petrol Pump with eight other men. We have nothing to do for about three hours during the day and are just sitting around bored.  I will record these stories and share them every week with my co-workers, so that they can tell others as well”.
How surprising, creative and sometimes even funny are the ways of God.  That he would use the mean guy that no-one likes as a conduit of His living word.  Reading about this faithful house helper reminds me of an old song we used to sing at youth group in the 70s.  If you are as old as I am, you might remember it too: “It only takes a spark to get a fire going.  And soon all those around can warm up in its glowing. That’s how it is with God’s love, once you’ve experienced it.  You spread his love to everyone, you want to pass it on.”
If you have received God’s love, then go on ….  pass it on!
